Role: Lead of Mechanical Team
As the Lead of the Mechanical Team, I am responsible for managing tasks related to the design and manufacturing of a chassis and suspension system for a rover to compete in the University Rover Challenge. Additionally, I have collaborated with other subteams to ensure that every aspect of the rover, from the robotic arm to the electronic components, work together cohesively. As a member of this club, I have undertaken numerous projects related to the creation of this machine such as redesigning and manufacturing a 37% stronger mounting system, reducing the weight of suspension system components by up to 29%, and configuring a more versatile base and chassis interior to better support other teams’ components. These tasks required using SolidWorks to model parts, running Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulations to optimize and verify their designs, and programming a CNC mill and waterjet cutter to fabricate them. A design summary and operation of the rover can be found in this video. Currently, our team is working a new and improved rover to compete next summer.
